No more plastic toys in nursery
At My First Friends Nursery we want to do our bit for climate change / the environment. Years ago the nursery had lots and lots of plastic toys. Since adapting and changing the nursery the teachers have slowly introduced wooden toys to the children. The teachers noticed a massive change in behaviour between plastic and wooden. When playing with plastic toys the play was aggressive and toys used to be getting broken frequently. The teachers also noticed the quality of the product wasn't as good as wooden toys. |
Since moving over to wooden toys the children are far more engaged, their imagination and role play based games have also improved. Children will play longer and learn longer with the wooden toys. We wouldn't be able to do this without help from green tokens with Waitrose and Asda that raised a nice sum of money.
The only bit of plastic left as a toy in the nursery is duplo / megabloks. The children enjoy using the duplo and will work together as a group (sometimes) to build towers/rockets/ houses etc.
All our wooden toys are either from Le Toy Van or Lanka Kade. In Brighton we finally have a shop in Portland Road that sells 100% wooden toys. We are happy to support local businesses and the owner Susan is lovely and will go above and beyond for finding us the right toy that is suited for the nursery. If you are interested in Susan's shop and want to get wooden toys for your child/children her shop is called Timeless Toys.
