My First Friends Nursery - Remembrance Day
|
On Monday 4th November the children welcomed the Mayor of Brighton , her lovely child and Sarah Nield from Withdean Greens. The children had a Remembrance tea party with poppy biscuits from Cakes the Difference. The children handed artwork to the mayor and a posy flowers to thank the Mayor for coming to the nursery. We have appeared in The Argus newspaper which I have attached the link which you can find under the slideshow |
At My First Friends Nursery, the children have been learning all about Remembrance Day and the poppy. Children have been making medals, large poppies , poppy wreaths, veterans and played with a poppy inspired tuff tray. The children enjoyed using different tools and media to make the poppies. The children were able to identify the colours they would need to make the poppy. |

On Thursday 7th November the children were invited by the Mayor as her special guests to lay the nursery's poppy wreath that they got from the Royal British Legion. We were told by the Macebearer that we were the first nursery in Brighton to come along to a service for Remembrance. When the service started the children patiently waited and listened to both the Mayor and The Ven Archdeacon Martin Lloyd Williams speeches dedicated to the Remembrance service. The children were in awe and wonder of watching the flags lower to mark respect for the soldiers that sadly lost their lives. They also enjoyed listening to the Bulger playing the last post.

While waiting for the service to start the children got to meet the veterans and a Bulger. The children got to hear their stories and play with a wolf cane. The Bugler kindly took the children onto the remembrance service area and pointed out to the many crosses that were in the grass. She even pointed to one that had a same name as a child. |

After the service the children were invited back to the mayors parlour to have drinks with the mayor and the veterans. The children also got to see their artwork hanging on the wall in the Mayors office, that they painted for the Mayor as a thank you for coming to our nursery on Monday 4th November. |
